ADVICE NOTE — (from Italian avviso) 1) in banking and commercial practice, an official notification regarding the execution of a settlement transaction (such as account entries or check issuance), its payment or refusal of payment, the opening of a letter of credit, etc.; 2) a letter notifying the recipient about the dispatch of a bill of exchange, goods, or transfer of funds. Banks use advice notes to notify clients of debit and credit entries, account balances, and other transactions. In international banking, a debit advice is commonly used to notify a party of a charge to their account.
