DEPRECIATION — (from Latin amortisatio) the systematic allocation of the cost of a tangible fixed asset over its useful life. It reflects the physical wear and tear and obsolescence of the asset. The accumulated depreciation expense is included in production costs and recovered through sales revenue to fund future asset replacement.
