ABSOLUTE RIGHT — a legal right that is enforceable against an indefinite number of people (erga omnes), as opposed to a relative right which is enforceable only against specific individuals. The corresponding obligation for the general public is to refrain from any actions that would infringe upon this right. Examples of absolute rights include property rights and personal non-property rights (such as the right to life or intellectual property).
