ABSENTEEISM — (from Latin absentia - absence) 1) In economics and property law: a form of ownership where the owner (e.g., a landlord) receives income or rent from an asset or land but does not actively participate in its management or cultivation; 2) In political science: the voluntary non-participation of voters in elections or referendums; 3) In human resources: the chronic or habitual failure of an employee to report for work without a valid excuse.
